Time-Out!!!

Through-out the course of this class, we have been going over everyday words and finding new meanings for them. Like through the readings I have found the different views and takes on typical words. I have come to the realization that  RHETORIC is everywhere.Since rhetoric is everywhere lets discuss that term first. Rhetoric has overlapping meanings, from the practice of oratory, to the study of effective oratory, to the use of language (both written and spoken), to the relationship between language and knowledge. Bitzer and  Herzberg gives us these definitions of rhetoric. So what really is rhetoric? Aristotle's definition is the art of persuasion.

This is how I feel about rhetoric, for it is communicating effectively, and I feel that a person can not effectively communicate, without the power or influence to persuade someone. The key words I will deal with while describing rhetoric are invention, arrangement, style, memory, and delivery. Invention is the way someone will present their information and formulate their arguments to persuade others. Arrangement is self explainable, which is the organization of all of the thoughts and arguments are in a proper place to help the ideas of their composition to flow. Style, is their use of the language throughout their compositions. Memory is the recollection onto one's own mind and thoughts as they present their composition. After all of this is done, the composer must deliver their composition and makes sure that they are effectively presenting it, in a form of persuasion.

Composition is the skill of creating written works or pieces of literacy. It deals with a great amount of key words and terms. Key terms such as audience, coherence, collaboration, process, revision, rhetoric, and more key terms.  Rhetoric overlaps with composition for, rhetoric is a key term that describes compostion as a whole. So the fact this is evident, shows just how things are used in different avenues or views about different things. Rhetoric in the form of composition is  defined as "knowledge of the intricacies of the tropes should be taught in courses in composition, along with grammar and rhetoric in the sense of persuasion" (Miller, 101).
The overlapping of key terms means that everything is working for better of each other. I person can't truly compose unless there is the presence of rhetorical situation. Then the rhetorical situation cause discourse, which is the beginning of the composition process. By the overlapping of different terms makes the process a little easier to understand, but if one doesn't understand one element then it won't understand the other.

Reflection is everywhere just as rhetoric. Yancey describes Reflection as "dialectical, putting multiple perspectives into play with each other in order to produce insight. Procedurally, reflection entails a looking forward to goals we might attain, as well as a casting backward to see where we have been." This basically means that in order to properly reflect we must first look ahead to see where we want out writing to become or develop into, as well as look behind us, to see what we enjoy or notice something that will distinguish our personal writing from the writings of others. Yancey says that reflection consists of "the three process of projection, retrospection, and revision." Reflection fits into composing for once again key terms are overlapping (revision). This important for revision is the process of reflecting/revising one's composition.
