London Here I Come!!!

I’m about to embark on a journey this summer that I absolutely cannot wait to experience. I am going to study abroad with the FSU Communication program in London!!! Out of all the things I have heard from people who have gone on the trip previously have said it was one of the best experiences of their life. Needless to say, every chance I get I’ve been researching the city and trying to find out more about it so when I go I will have a greater knowledge of what I am getting myself into. There are many things to do and see in London but I will primarily focus on the ones I am most excited about.

The Theatre District

London is at the heart of theatre and most shows are showed in London before they ever come to New York on Broadway. So, I will hopefully get to see shows that are original and unique that no one in the U.S. has seen before. Also, I’m looking forward to seeing Shakespeare’s The Globe Theatre. While I’m not much of a Shakespeare kind of girl, I do appreciate his work and will be excited to see the plays performed there, in its original design.

Museums and Venues

I’m still researching the various museums London has to offer, but I know I will definitely be seeing a lot of them since they’re FREE. Yep, all, at least most all, the museums are free. The fact that the British Museum is right across from our study center is just so cool to me!!! I can literally walk there. Some other venues besides the museums will be Westminster Abbey, London Eye, British Library, Buckingham Palace, St. Paul’s Cathedral and of course the Castles!!!

The Parks

So I’m told that the Londoner’s stop and have tea everyday. I’m quite anxious to see this for myself. In America, if someone told their boss they were to stop for tea they would look at them like they are crazy. But, in London, sipping tea in one of the beautiful parks is a tradition. Hyde Park, Green Park and St. James park just touch on the many green lush areas, prime for taking a mid-day break.

Oxford/Cambridge/Day Trips

While I’m excited to experience the city of London and all it has to offer I’m especially looking forward to taking some day trips to visit Oxford and Cambridge. I’ve heard much about these schools throughout my education and I want to see what it’s all about. Also, there are some fantastic day trips to take from London that are just a train ride away. Yes, I said train ride. You don’t hear that much in America. Some of the locations are Salisbury, Brighton, Bath (so excited for this one because I’m a fan of Jane Austen J), Canterbury (I’m interested to see this after reading Canterbury Tales in high school), as well as many others. While I know I will probably not get to see all these places in my short 6 weeks there, I will undoubtedly soak up every piece of what I do get to experience and will probably like it so much I’ll want to go back!

These are some of the videos I've been watching on youtube to help me find out about the city I'm going to be living in this summer:
